Hi, I’m Craig Bailey and this is my personal blog where I write about technology, business systems, HubSpot and general life experiences. You can read my posts here.

(If you are looking for the Content is King post by Bill Gates it is here)

I’m involved with three agencies in Sydney:

  • The first is XEN Systems. We help government departments and mid-large B2B technology companies with their sales and marketing strategy, including implementation and training in HubSpot
  • The second is XEN Create. We provide premium graphic design services to companies, with a focus on using the latest AI tools, including Midjourney
  • The third is XEN Solar, where we help high quality solar companies (dealers, installers) with their sales and marketing processes.

I also co-host HubShots, the podcast and YouTube show focussed on getting the most out of HubSpot. We are the creators of the HubShots Framework.

VFP: TIOBE again – some concerns

V

As Craig Boyd and others have pointed out, Visual FoxPro has risen again in the TIOBE index, this time to number 12. It is only an index ofcourse, so we can’t place too much emphasis on it, but on the other hand it does seem a reasonable reflection of VFP’s revival lately. However the thing that concerns me is seeing VB.Net drop down to position 21. This seems...

SOFTWARE: Dave Lemphers on getting a degree

S

The ‘Infectious’ Dave Lemphers (you only need to see him present once to see how infectious and passionate this guy is) wrote (a few weeks ago) about ‘Why you should get a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering’. principle I strongly agree with him. There’s a few problems we face however. One is that post-dot-com there has been a shift in the...

VFP: Another Visual FoxPro blogger – Oscar Rivera

V

Another Foxie joins us. Oscar has a nice first post about how to create circular forms in VFP. code is very easy to use. To save you the (minute of) trouble of coding a form yourself you can try a simple sample made from his code here.  This is ofcourse only the beginning of many things you can do. And there are numerous different approaches (eg see Craig Boyd’s posts on...

LINK: Free database CRUD

L

I pretty much agree with this article that we should be able to get basic database operations (create, read, update, delete) out of the box. Although our projects are getting more complex, the underlying data integrity requirements don’t really change much. to Adam for pointing this one out to me.

VFP: FoxTabs 0.3.6 update

V

Scott and I slipped a new beta out last week, but wanted to wait a few days before announcing it in case anything serious came out. But initial indications are that this version is a lot more stable, specifically with regard to the Compile error dialog issue. There are still a few quirks (eg one person reported an issue when calling up the debugger) but overall we are pretty happy...

VFP: Sydney VFP User Group last night

V

An interesting night last night with Andrew Coates demoing Vista, Office 2007 Beta and, oh yeah, Visual FoxPro running on Vista Beta 2. First thing to note is that Vista looks great, behaved great, is gonna be great, etc Second thing is that Office 2007 looks great, behaved great, is gonna be great, etc Third thing is that VFP runs great, looks great (most of the time) and is gonna...

IT: The tyranny of IT departments

I

This (old) article on the ‘tyranny’ of IT departments caught my eye: sure we’ve all had experiences both positive and negative dealing with IT departments. But what interested me most was how many comments there were – so many people felt the need to ‘share’ their experience (most in defence of IT departments interestingly enough). I’d never have thought...

SECURITY: FalconOne technology

S

An interesting approach to security and detecting online fraudstershttp://www.infoworld.com/cgi-bin/redirect?source=rss&url= software mentioned uses a bunch of techniques including: The software also monitors other characteristics of account holders, such as their style of typing and mouse movements to determine whether the user attempting a transaction is the actual account holder...
