Jonathan Schwartz is my new hero

I’ve been reading Jonathan’s blog for a while now (he’s the CEO of Sun) because I love his honesty, curiosity and ability to think right outside the square. His latest post on reducing waste by improving efficiency is so simple and common sense as to be jarring – it caught me completely by surprise. I’ll never look at a computer spec the same way again. HP Printer pranks

I'm not really one for office practical jokes, but this one from LifeHacker is pretty neat (if it is indeed real).
The joke involved changing the printer console to say 'INSERT COIN'. Pretty funny (well I think so).

Interwoven to buy Optimost

Interwoven (a pretty big CMS player) is to acquire Optimost (a pretty small web optimisation company) for $52M. This is of interest to me, being in the CMS space, because I'm seeing a lot happening by the big ECM (enterprise content management) players. Enterprise has woken up to the benefits of ECM and CMS and it is no longer a hard sell. Now is the time for rationalising as the big boys...

Microsoft has an acquisition KPI

Always one to one-up his Monkey boy grab of yesteryear, Steve this time tells the Web 2.0 conference that Microsoft will acquire 20 companies a year. Instead of outlining a strategy that details finding the best and most exciting technology companies and purchasing them (no matter how many, or what cost), he instead puts out a number (20) and a valuation range ($50M – $1B). Meaningless...

Scott Barnes and the RIA bridge

One thing I really like about Scott is that he doesn't hold back – he speaks his mind. At times you might resist a little too much bias, but this is a small cost compared to the value of his posts. His latest post on RIA is long (too long probably), but important reading for those following the RIA debate (what debate? I hear you ask :-). Whilst he touts maturity (namely...

Popfly, Popfly, Popfly

Believe the hype – Popfly really is that impressive.
I've only done the most basic of tutorials, but you can see here how a mashup of Live images and Photo sphere works. You need to sign in with a Live ID to make something, but anyone can view/use it if you choose to share it.

The best database/OS/tool to use?

More from Atlassian, this time their Developer blog, with the best answer to the question of 'which <insert tool/OS/etc> should I use?…' that I've heard in a long time. Their answer – the one you have the most confidence administering.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Readiness

Not a release, not even a launch, but a readiness event. Boy, they do get the machine going early these days. That said I'll be at the Business track that Dave Lemphers is blogging about. We've got to keep up with all these new things, and I have a feeling Microsoft may be starting to get the CRM product sort of functional at last (we have CRM 3 at Elcom and everyone hates it!)...

Atlassian consider enabling JIRA with TFS

Over at Atlassian (they of the recent Microsoft partnership announcement) they're asking for feedback on whether to build a TFS plugin for JIRA. Add your comment here if it is of interest to your situation.
I've been playing with JIRA and Confluence today – they are both sweet experiences.
