I pretty much agree with this article that we should be able to get basic database operations (create, read, update, delete) out of the box. Although our projects are getting more complex, the underlying data integrity requirements don’t really change much.

Yes, I looked at Dabble a little while back – very impressive. They are a perfect example of a product who have focussed on perception – very slick. But I agree there may be issues about scalability etc.
Years ago I did a lot of work in FileMaker, which was an excellent product. I only stopped using it when I started moving over to FoxPro, but even then it had features that many products these days (including VFP) still don’t have eg it had a simple wizard for putting your desktop database onto the web in a matter of minutes, complete with nice looking menus, styles etc.
