Predicting the Past: Emotional Design and a Vision for Microsoft Surface
A new inflection point in human-computer interaction is upon us. Along with other technologies, Microsoft Surface marks a departure from graphical user interface or GUI into the world of Natural User Interface or NUI. This talk begins with discussion of emotional design and its importance in the future of society. The lens shifts to how one design team is thinking about designing for a new era in which emotional intent and intuitive interaction are the imperative. Using theoretical models drawn from a mix of history, science, philosophy, and even video game design, this presentation reveals principles behind experience design for Microsoft Surface and beyond.
Technology: Mitch Denny presenting on The Evolution of Enterprise Software Development.
Mitch Denny will be leading a discussion on The Evolution of Enterprise Software Development. Current forces in the industry are challenging our traditional (and even not so traditional) approaches to developing software to meet business requirements. In this session Mitch will introduce one way that he has been approaching some internal systems development problems at Readify and looks how this approach could be used within your organisation to deliver greater business value through technology.
We’ve started an SBTUG group on LinkedIn – feel free to join us if you see value in connecting with others on LinkedIn.
Don’t forget, if you haven’t already, you can join the SBTUG group on Facebook.
And please RSVP for Wed night’s event here to let us know you are coming.

Last but not least, you can always follow us on Twitter here.
See you at SBTUG next week on Wed 24 Sep 2008.
August was amazing – and the surface is something you have to play with to understand – I had the rare privilege to have my 2.75 year old play with it while August and I chatted about it. There’s some video that hopefully will be online too.
If you get the chance to ever see August speak, do so. He is amazing.

Thanks for the nice comment John.
He was great at Web Directions too. A great catch for the event (which was all-in-all excellent). I have some blog posts about the event coming…
Cheers,
Craig
